The Ft Leavenworth military base is located in Leavenworth County, Kansas (just north of the city of Leavenworth) in the upper northeast portion of the state. The base serves United States Army. The garrison supports the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) by managing and maintaining the home of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center (CAC). Ft Leavenworth occupies 5,600 acres. Leavenworth was also first built in 1827. Fort Leavenworth is the oldest continuosly running military installation west of the Mississippi.
Ft Leavenworth always reminds me of jail. When I was in the Basic Training the DI's used to love to threaten us with the thought of being sent to Leavenworth for one reason or another.
As far as the facts go, Ft Leavenworth is the home to the Dod (Department of Defenses), only maximum security prison. Some famous prisoners include the Bird Man of Alcatraz, Machine Gun Kelly, and Randy Lanier amongst others.
